Nine corporators have not asked a single question
Mumbai : Odd 57 corporators of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been charge-sheeted and 30 of them have fresh FIR against them by the end December last year, revealed the report card published by Praja Foundation on Monday.
Praja Foundation has presented Corporators’ Report Card on Monday which shows that this time too nine corporators have not asked a single question during the 2014-15 and the average committee meeting attendance also witnessed a drastic fall.
According to the report, two corporators have more than 10 FIRs registered against them while another five have up to 10 FIRs against them, 19 of them have upto five FIRs against them and other 31 have one FIR each.
Raju Pednekar has the highest number of FIRs registered against him (12), second highest FIRs are registered against Anant Nar (11) and Ramesh Korgaonkar stands third with eight FIRs against him, states the report.
Average committee meeting attendance fell down from 81 per cent in 2012-13 to 68 per cent in 2014-15. In total, in 817 meetings only 2,727 questions were asked, average 3.3 questions per meeting.
Manisha Patil, Changez Multani, Kesarben Patel, Sukhada Pawar, Mohmmed Patel, Avinash Sawant, Pratiksha Ghuge, Mangal Kadam and Manju Kumare did not ask a single question whereas Trushna Vishwasrao, Mohsin Haider, Dhananjay Pisal and Devendra Ambekar are top participants in the General Body meetings.
Positive change has been witnessed in the number of quality of questions. Nitai Mehta, managing trustee of Praja Foundation, said, “Number of quality questions have witnessed a sharp rise from 47 per cent in 2013-14 to 51 per cent in 2014-15.”
He added, “Besides, the awareness and accessibility scores have also increased from 35 per cent in 2013-14 to 52 per cent in 2014-15. It shows that corporators are accessible for local public.”
First time since Praja Foundation started corporators’ card a corporator secured ‘A’ grade. Sunita Yadav of Bharatiya Janata Party has topped the ranking with overall score of 80.87 per cent and secured ‘A’ grade. Nasir Mehta and Ajanta Yadav, both from Congress, secured second and third rank respectively.
They were scored on the basic of education qualification, PAN card, criminal cases, participation in debates, number of questions asked, usage of funds and accessibility to the public.
Party-wise, average score of BJP is 61 per cent followed by Samajwadi Party 59.60 per cent, NCP 59.56 per cent, Shiv Sena 59.41 per cent, Congress 58.41 per cent and MNS 54.34 per cent.
