Mumbai : A 23-year-old was arrested by Kandivali police for sexually assaulting a three-year-old minor girl. The accused identified as Chabbinath Bharatlal Yadav is a daily wage labourer and lives in the same area as the victim.
According to officials, the incident occurred at around 2 pm on Sunday when the accused was visiting the victim’s house.
“The accused and the victim’s families were neighbours and knew each other. That day the accused came to meet the victim’s family and the girl’s mother who wanted to buy medicines asked him to take care of the girl while she quickly went to the chemist,” said a senior officer of the Kandivali police.
When the mother left, the accused allegedly made obscene gestures to the young girl and asked her to touch his genital area. W
hen the girl started crying loudly, he left. “Just then the girl’s mother returned and the girl told her what had happened,” said the senior.
The mother who rushed to the police station registered an FIR against the accused. The police have booked Yadav under sections 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 509 of the Indian Penal Code.
