Explosion took place while the maintenance work was going on in the factory
Mumbai: Three people were killed and five injured in a blast at Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd factory in Chembur on Saturday evening.
As per the RCF police, initial investigations revealed that the blast occurred at around 5.45 pm.
Mumbai police spokesperson, Ashok Dudhe, said, “Prima facie it appeared that maintenance and welding work was going on when the explosion took place.”
According to Dhanraj Gaikawad, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chembur division, “Three people were killed and five injured in the blast. The injured have been shifted to Rajawadi hospital.”
DilipPawar, Govind Kumar and MehmoodAlam Noor Mohammed were killed in the explosion.
The deceased, Pawar was a resident of Indiranagar at Vashi Naka. Kumar was a resident of New Shastri Nagar while Mohammed was a resident of New Bharat Nagar at Vashi Naka.
SajidSayyed, Jayshankar Sharma, Rahul Shinde, ShashikantDalvi and RavindraKamble were injured in the incident. They were immediately rushed to Rajawadi hospital.
Kamble is a senior engineer at the chemical factory. Shinde is a technician while Dalvi was heading the operations.
The maintenance work was given to AlAqib Engineering Works. SajidSayyed was looking after the ongoing maintenance work on behalf of the contractor firm.
The police immediately rushed to the spot.
