Bhayandar : Notorious chain snatchers-Salman Rafique Ansari (21) and Saif Ali Gulzar Khan (19) who were arrested by the Dahisar police early this month have confessed to their involvement in 10 chain snatching cases in Bhayandar.
According to the police, the duo who were found roaming on their bike had been nabbed by an on-duty patrolling team from Dahisar police station during routine nakabandi in the first week of July.
After rounds of sustained interrogations the duo confessed to over a dozen chain snatching cases and also revealed the name of their accomplice identified as Lala Khan alias Nabi (47) to whom they sold their stolen booty.
A couple of days later, Nabi was also arrested.
Suspecting the involvement of the trio in similar chain snatching cases in their jurisdiction, a police team from the Navghar police station led by PSI Karande under the instructions of Senior PI Abhay Kurundkar successfully sought transit custody of the accused who confessed to the involvement in 10 cases committed by them in the Bhayandar (east) region.
The police team, managed to recover stolen ornaments worth more than Rs.5 lakh which they had sold off at cheaper rates. “ The trio have been remanded to police custody till 21, July when they were produced before the District Sessions Court, Thane.” said, PSI Karande who is carrying out further investigations into the case.
Natives of Delhi, the duo-Saif and Salman along with their common friend-Shahrukh had landed in Mumbai with a common dream of becoming actors in Bollywood.
However after an unsuccessful 3-year struggle for getting a break in the hindi film industry, Saif and Salman apparently resorted to crime for survival.
The duo roamed around in bikes during the early morning hours and targeted people mostly women and senior citizens especially near schools temples and desolate places.
Nabi Khan who gave his bike to the duo for committing the crimes was the recipient of a part of the stolen booty. The investigating team is now checking if the trio are a part of a bigger gang.
