Bhayandar : A 28-year-old machine operator was electrocuted at an industrial unit in Bhayandar (east) on Monday. The fatal mishap has once again turned the spotlight on criminal negligence by industrial unit owners in following mandatory safety norms for their workforce.
The deceased identified as Rajeev Chauhan (28) was employed at a steel utensil making unit in the Bhavesh Industrial Zone in Bhayandar (east). Chauhan suffered a massive electric shock immediately after he touched the power press machine to begin his daily shift on Monday morning. Chauhan was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead and the autopsy report stated electrocution as the cause of death.
It has been alleged that that the owner of the industrial unit had ignored basic safety measures which had posed a serious threat to the life of workers. However, instead of booking the guilty for causing death due to negligence, sleuths of the Navghar police have registered a case of accidental death in this connection.
When contacted, Senior PI Abhay Kurundkar said, “Detailed investigations into the case is in progress and we will not spare anyone who is found to be guilty. A case under section 304 (A) of the IPC will be registered.”
Chauhan, resident of Ganesh Deval Nagar in Bhayandar (west), was the sole breadwinner of his family, comprising two daughters and a pregnant wife. Meanwhile, demanding strict action against the owner and adequate compensation, family members of the deceased refused to take possession of the body.
