Mumbai : On early Sunday morning, the Vikhroli police arrested four people from smuggling beef into the city. The police recov-ered around 25 quintals of beef worth approximately Rs 5.5 lakh from two trucks. While one truck was caught at Mulund check naka, the other was int-ercepted on the Eastern Expre-ss Highway at Vikhroli.  Those arrested have been identified as Akhtar Shaikh, Khan Jafar, Yunus Qureshi and Sajid Qure-shi, and an FIR has been regis-tered against them. It’s believ-ed that all four are labourers. The police are investigating the case and trying to find out its origin and the place where it was to be delivered.  It’s is beli-eved that one truck has come from Sangam Nagar, while the other was from Bhiwandi. The smuggled beef was disposed off by the police at the Deonar abattoir, while some of it was sent as sample for tests at the Parel Veterinary Hospital.  The State government had banned the sale, slaughtering and tran-sportation of beef in March.
