Mumbai : The Powai-fire had claimed seven lives and 28 people had sustained injuries. Ashok Mukherjee (60), who had suffered 40 per cent burn injuries during the fire is reported to be stable and is recuperating in National Burn Centre (NBC), Airoli.
Meanwhile, out of the 27 injured people who were admitted to Hiranandani Hospital, 23 people have got discharged and four are getting treated in the hospital. Of which, one is still on the ventilator; however his condition is reported to be improving.
During the fire, Mukherjee had suffered third degree burn injuries following which he was rushed to NBC. When asked about his condition, NBC official while requesting for anonymity said, “Mukherjee is stable and has shown great improvement since past one week. Considering that his condition was better, we performed a skin grafting surgery on him on Saturday. However, we are closely monitoring his condition and we check up on him in every few hours.”
The four patients who are still recuperating in Hiranandani Hospital are admitted since last Saturday evening owing to smoke inhalation. One of the patients who is on ventilator and in Intensive Care Unit of the hospital is said to have inhaled lot of smoke during the fire.
Dr Sujit Chaterjee, CEO of Hiranandani Hospital said, “The patient’s lungs were filled with smoke following which he started having breathing difficulties. We had to immediately admit him in ICU in order to stabilise him, however, we were not sure about his health till yesterday but today he is stable. Meanwhile, other patients are out of anger and might soon be discharged.”
