200 job seekers looted of Rs 1.5 cr

“These youngsters applied for foreign placements promised to them by the firm four to five months ago. A case has been filed against two males and three females.”

Mumbai : Around 200 youngsters from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar got the shock of their lives when they saw the firm they had put all their money in shuttered. A Kandivali-based placement firm allegedly looted the youngesters of around Rs 1.5 crore under the pretext of giving them placements in foreign countries, said the police on Tuesday.

It is alleged that the firm operating from a mall in Kandivali advertised in an Uttar Pradesh-based newspaper about multiple openings in various foreign countries which lured many aspiring youngsters who applied to the firm.

They were asked to undergo medical examinations and were later told to pay for their Visa and were  charged Rs30,000 to Rs 80,000 each. It is learnt that these applicants were also shown their offer letters from foreign companies and were later asked to submit their passports.

Also, many of them were told that their flights to Singapore were booked but when these youngsters arrived at the firm’s office in Kandivli they found it was shut. These applicants found themselves conned and thronged the Kandivali Police Station to file a complaint against the firm.

“These youngsters had applied for foreign placements which were promised to them by this firm around four to five months back,” said Mukund Pawar, Senior Police Inspector, Kandivali Police. “A case has been registered under IPC Sections 406 (Criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating) and 34 (Common intention) against five people of which two are male and three are females,” added Pawar.

In a similar case, the cops had nabbed the officials of an Andheri-based private firm in the month of November, who allegedly duped around 300 job aspirants.
