2 nabbed for duping senior citizens in Kalyan bank

Mumbai: The JJ marg police on Monday arrested two persons for cheating senior citizens in banks. The duo, identified as Hamaja Sayyad, 26, and Raza Irani, 61, both are residents of Amboli area of Kalyan.

The two, along with their another accomplice, are master of cheating senior citizens inside banks on the pretext of helping them. Recently, a senior citizen from Dongri went to a bank to withdraw Rs20,000 from his account, when the trio approached him.

They told him a few Rs2,000 notes were torn and needed to be changed. The trio then took the money from him on pretext of helping him. While one was counting the cash, the other two distracted the senior citizen. The trio returned the money to the senior only after removing Rs6,500.

When the senior citizen realised that he had been cheated, the trio had vanished. Then the elderly man approached the JJ Marg police station and registered an offence under sections cheating (420) and common intention (34) of the Indian Penal Code Section (IPC).

After the offence was registered, the JJ Marg police began the investigation. While scanning the bank’s CCTV footages, police identified the accused to be Sayyad and Irani, both the residents of Amboli, Kalyan.

A team of the JJ Marg police then arrested the duo from Amboli, Kalyan, on Monday.

According to the police, multiple cases of same modus operandi are registered against the trio at various police stations across Mumbai and Thane.
