Mumbai: Two persons were arrested for possessing fake currency worth Rs three lakh, on February 27, near Jijabai Udyan, in Byculla. Acting on a tip-off, crime branch police formed a team and laid a trap near a bus stop, adjacent to the Byculla zoo, Jijabai Udyan and around 4.16pm, the police saw two suspiciously looking people.
Police intercepted them and found them carrying fake notes Indian currency — 12 notes of Rs 500 denominations, totalling Rs 6000 and 147 notes of Rs 2000, amounting to Rs 2,94,000.
A Case has been registered with the Byculla police station under the relevant sections under the Indian Penal Code, for genuine, forged or counterfeit currency notes or bank notes (489 B), possession of genuine, forged or counterfeit currency notes or bank notes (489 C) and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention (34). The accused were presented before the court and were remanded in police custody till March 5.
