Mumbai : Fourteen people were arrested for kidnapping and assaulting four businessmen. Police sources said two accused, identified as Irfan Namakwala and Imran Namakwala, contacted four businessmen Imtiaz Vadgama, Shoaib Merchant, Yusuf Pathan and one of their friends.

“They gave Rs 7,50,000 to the victims to invest in diamond trade. The victims returned Rs 8 lakh to Namakwala and his associates. But he demanded more money,” said a senior officer at DB Marg police station. When the businessmen could not meet the demand, 12 men kidnapped them. “They were kept in a dark room, beaten up and were also forced to sign forged documents. They demanded Rs 30 lakh as ransom,” he added.

The businessmen were kidnapped on September 21 and released two days later. They then lodged an FIR at DB Marg police station, leading to the arrests.
