Mumbai : It feels good to hear my daughter talk and react to my voice, says Kinjal’s mother. Four-year-old Kinjal is one among the 100 kids who underwent cochlear implant surgery this year with the financial support of Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
Cochlear implant is gaining prominence, among other corporates as well. In the past many have come forward to extend their support for the cause. Till date, 1,019 kids have availed this facility, said Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot. The ministry is planning to approach more and more corporates to contribute to this cause. Talking further about the initiative, Gehlot said, “The awareness programme is needed to help people identify the issue. We are providing the cochlear implant to kids, based on the criteria. Budget will not be a problem in implementing these initiatives.”
As of now, the cochlear implant surgeries are done on kids below the age of 5 to 6 years as the success rate among this age group is higher compared to older kids.
