1,000 policemen to keep guard as Mumbai rings in New Year

Mumbai : As Mumbaikars plan their New Year parties, the city police too are all set to welcome 2016. The Mumbai Police has beefed up security across the city so that New Year bashes remain pleasant. To maintain law and order in the city, the Mumbai Police has decided to extend its security checks from highways and roads to railways too. “Around 1,000 policemen have been deployed in all the nooks and corners of the city and will keep an eye on youngsters and people with huge baggages. In addition to this, policemen will also be seen at various railway stations scanning the bags of commuters,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, spokesperson of Mumbai Police, adding that around 90 police stations are part of the security operation to check any form of violence and to prevent people from carrying liquor on trains.
