Ujjain: Unpaid sanitation workers stop work at railway station

Ujjain: Ujjain railway station bore the brunt of sanitation workers’ strike on Saturday as disposable glasses, plates and plastic items littered the platforms. The sanitation workers observed protest as they were not given their salaries.  According to employees, the service provider (contractor) did not pay their salaries and when demanded, the contractor threatened to sack them from job, the workers said. The employees are paid Rs 3500 per month for their eight hour work. Forty six employees stopped working and staged ‘dharna’ to get their salaries immediately.
