Ujjain: Thousands of devotees paid obeisance at Mahakaleshwar Temple on Monday on Mahashivratri. According to devotees it took around 50 minutes to get a glimpse of Lord Shiva. Devotees were allowed entry as soon as temple gates opened around 2.30am. Daddodak aarti and Bhog aarti were performed after Bhasmaarti in morning hours.
The ‘sehra’ was tied on Lord Shiva in the morning by priests. According to collector Shashank Mishra, over one lakh devotees had paid obeisance till 7pm and more devotees continued to arrive late as the temple was to remain open throughout the night.
Till 12 noon, the temple administration got received Rs 10, 37, 500 in form of paid darshan facility. Likewise, ladoo Prasad worth Rs 6, 94, 800 were sold. On Mahashivratri, temple remain open for 44 hours continuously and would be closed at 11 am on Tuesday. The bhasm aarti held from 4 pm daily would be held from 12 noon on Tuesday.
Heavy rush of devotees was also seen at Mangalnath, Siddhanath, Angareshwar temples and other Shiv temples across the city.
