Ujjain: The inauguration ceremony of Rock Art Society of India’s (RASI) 23rd conference was organised on Friday at Hotel Ashray. The conference was inaugurated by lighting of lamps by mentor Saskar Bharti Yogendra Vashishtha, Dr Vyankteshvarlu and Dr Arvind Jamkhedkar and other invitees at Hotel Ashray. The programme was presided over by Dr Bhagwatilal Rajpurohit. The event is being organised in birth centenary year of archaeologist Padmshri Dr Vishnu Shridhar Wakankar.
Dr Dilip Wakankar delivered the welcome speech and highlighted the achievements and goals of Wakankar Bharti Sanskriti Nyas. Dr Ariketa Pradhan introduced the guests during the programme. On this occasion, secretary of the ‘nyas’ (trust) Dr Dilip Wakankar and Dr Nalini Rewadikar presented mementos. The RASI brochure Purakala and a book written by Minakshi Dube were also released on the occasion. All India Rock Art Society secretary Dr Girirajkumar cleared the aims of the society during his address. Dr Kailash Pandey felicitated participants during the inaugural programme.
Addressing the programme Yogendra Vashishtha shared his experiences and the contributions made by Dr Wakankar. He also mentioned researches of Dr Wakankar. Dr Vyankteshwarlu also addressed the programme and appreciated the efforts of organisers. Dr Arvind Jamkhedkar explained different styles of sculptures and periodic changes in them.
Dr Rajpurohit also shared his thoughts on the life, achievements and contributions of Dr Wankankar. Archaeologists Pancholi, Dr Kailash Pandey Naraya Vyas and other prominent personalities were present in the programme. The programme was conducted by Vidya Joshi and gratitude was expressed by Dr Nalini Rewadikar. Prof Girirajkumar and Dr Dilip Wakankar further informed that on Saturday sitar player Smita Nagdev will perform at hotel Ashraya located at Dewas Road.
