Ujjain: Bharatiya Janata Party sprang surprise on Congress two days ahead of the election to the vacant posts of president and vice-president of Zila Panchayat as its leader Pratap Singh Arya who joined the Congress some days ago in presence of CM Kamal Nath in Bhopal returned to BJP on Monday.
Arya’s wife is Zila Panchayat member and as the Congress and BJP have 9 members each in the 21-member house, former’s joining may help the Congress to retain these posts. President’s post was lying vacant as Mahesh Patel became MLA from Tarana and tendered his resignation while the then vice-president Bharat Porwal was declared disqualified some months ago.
These elections were thus assumed significance as were being conducted after change of government in the State. In a press conference Arya told that he joined the Congress to expose its horse trading mentality and he was tantalized by Tarana MLA Mahesh Parmar by giving him an offer of important post in the board in which the CM was also involved.
