Ujjain: Senior Congress leader and former CM Digvijaya Singh on Friday rejected reports of likely deferring Lok Sabha election in the wake of martyrdom of over 40 CRPF jawans at Pulwama and possible retaliation by Indian military forces on Pakistan-based terrorist locations. “I don’t think India is heading towards Presidential Rule and general elections will be held as per schedule in April-May and model code of conduct is likely to be enforced next week,” he added.
Addressing a press conference at Circuit House, Digvijaya Singh accused the BJP of taking political advantage of the terror attack. He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not take the barbaric incident seriously and did not declare a national mourning. Instead he went ahead with his rallies, other programmes, film shooting, boating, etc, Singh alleged. The veteran Congress leader also raised question for not granting permission to airlift the CRPF jawans on the fateful day.
He said the Centre should answer as to why proper security of CRPF cavalcade was not made and how such a huge amount of explosives was allowed to reach at the incident spot. Responding to the controversial written answers submitted by some ministers of Kamal Nath government with regard to Mandsaur firing incident and plantation (on banks of river Narmada) scam during recent assembly session, Singh said it was the mistake of low-rung staff which got shelter during the BJP regime. He, however, said cautious should have been maintained.
