Ujjain: Kuchipudi dancer T Reddi Lakshmi held workshop demonstration in two educational institutions of the city on the second day on Tuesday. Lakshmi is a disciple of Padma Shri recipient Jayarama Rao. She conducted workshop cum demonstrations under Spic Macay’s initiative, in association with IOCL.
She held these events at in Bhartiya Gyanpeeth (NSS) camp at 11 am road and later at Government Middle School in Kothi at 12.30 noon. She performed different mythological stories which convey social messages to children like women empowerment and balancing oneself in all different situations of life.
Lakshmi taught them about navarasa-the nine emotions from Natya Shastra written by Bharatmuni. She presented an interesting episode from Mahabharata- the game of dice between Pandav and Shakuni and how Dusshasana tried to disrobe and humiliate Draupadi in front of the Kaurava Sabha and how Lord Krishna came to her rescue.
This story also conveys a message that being unfaithful to the unfaithful is justified. This song was written by Maharaja Swati Thirunal of Karnataka and set to raga Shudhsarang and Aadi talam. She also discussed the differences between various dance forms and the importance of their costumes and jewellery.
The school teachers Ujjwala Sakhare and Megha Vyas expressed their gratitude to the artist and Spic Macay convener Pankaj Agrawal for the support and coordination. On Wednesday, Lakshmi will perform in Vijayaraje Government Girls Middle School Dussehra Maidan-2 at 11 am and in Government Middle School Nanakheda at 12.30 noon.
