Ujjain: Chief secretary Sudhi Ranjan Mohanty takes stock of arrangements ahead of Makar Sankranti

Ujjain: Chief secretary Sudhi Ranjan Mohanty visited the city on Sunday. He was accorded warm welcome by officials of district and police administration at the helipad.

Narmada water for every snan-parv
Mohanty instructed the officials concerned to make preparations well in advance with responsibility so that not only on Makar Sankranti but on every snan parv the water of Narmada is available for the pilgrims in the river Kshipra.

Ghats inspected
CS inspected Triveni to check the arrangements. He also checked the stop dam of confluence spot of Kanh and Kshipra River. He visited Ranjoji Ki Chhatri to review bathing arrangements on the main ghats of Kshipra. He took a meeting at Brahashpati Bhavan. After his visited, Mohanty stated that there is sufficient water of Narmada on every ghat of the river Kshipra.

25k pilgrims expected
Collector Mishra informed that according to estimation, over 25000 pilgrims will gather at the banks of the river on Makar Sankranti snan parv. He said at present 1267 mcft water is available in Gambhir Dam and Narmada water for pilgrims will become insufficient till the Sunday evening he added.

Narmada water reaches Kshipra ghats
The water of river Narmada on Sunday reached various ghats of river Kshipra for pilgrims. Collector Mishra told that arrangements related with cleanliness were also checked and public toilets, mobile toilets, changing rooms and other arrangements were also made ahead of the festival.

Motor pumps removed

Before the inspection of the chief secretary Mohanty the administration removed illegal motor pumps from the riverbed located at Bhukhimata temple areas by which the farmers were stealing river water for their crops. Mohanty also went to Mahakaleshwar Temple and paid obeisance to the presiding deity.
