Ujjain: Students of two groups clashed at Dewasgate located Government Madhav Arts and Commerce College as Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members burnt effigies of higher education minister Jitu Patwari on Saturday evening.
During the incident ABVP members and National Students Union of India (NSUI) members broke into a scuffle and took to stone pelting on one another at Madhav Art and Commerce College.  The dispute erupted when the ABVP members burnt three effigies of state higher education minister Jitu Patwari in protest of the order issued by higher education department- banning students to stage dharna, organise rally and shouting slogans.

District ABVP general secretary Himashu Rawal told Free Press that the ABVP will always oppose such autocratic anti student orders of the Congress led state government. He alleged student leaders Bablu Khichi, Yash Jain, Yeshwant, Kush Verma and some other students for making the dispute violent and pelting stones on ABVP members.  Dewasgate police station TI Jitendra Bhaskar told that the police used water cannon to disperse the scuffling students on the road and the matter got pacified after police intervention between both the student groups. The TI further told that no FIR has been registered in the incident as yet.

Meanwhile, former MLA Batuk Shankar Joshi along with City Congress Committee vice-president Sanjeev Bali, NSUI leaders Pritesh Sharma and Ambar Mathur reached the spot. Bali said that order issued by the higher education department is in student’s interest and condemned the burning of the effigies of the state minister for higher education Jitu Patwari.  NSUI (R) and ABVP (L) activists during the clash FP Phoros
