Ujjain: Eight cows of Kapila Guashala run by Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) were on Wednesday found dead. As soon as mayor Meena Jonwal came know about the incident, she along with mayor in council members Satyanarayan Chouhan, Radheshyam Verma, Mangilal Kadel, Neelurani Khartri and Geeta Choudhary reached at the cowshed and staged dharna protesting mismanagement by the authorities and scarcity of manpower at the cowshed.

Irate Jonwal accused municipal commissioner of apathetic attitude towards the cowshed which lacked space and 800 stray cows were stuffed into it. She further claimed that the issued had been brought it into the notice of commissioner and other officials concerned but they did not pay any attention.

The cattle rearers are also unwilling to take back their cows and due to lack of space and proper care the cows are dying, the mayor claimed. Reacting to the issue, commissioner Pal said the cows cannot be freed from the cowshed until the cattle owners complete legal formalities and claim the cattle. The reasons behind the deaths of cows will be investigated, she added.
