Padma Shree-recipient Sant Balweer Singh Seechewal, a well-known social reformist and environmentalist from Punjab, will be awarded the 21st National Krantiveer Award, constituted in honour of famous freedom fighter, author, journalist and thinker Ramchandra Raghuwanshi Kakaji.
Giving information about ‘National Krantiveer Award’ felicitation ceremony, hosts Prakash Raghuwanshi and Omprakash Khatri said that famous Kali Booi river in which Guru Nanakdev used to take ‘Samadhi’ has become polluted and is almost dry. Sant Seechewal has taken a vow to make the river pollution free and with the help of mass movement brought it back to its flowing state.
Former President of India Abdul Kalam himself went to Punjab to present Padma Shree. In fact he was so much influenced with Seechewal’s work that he used to go to Punjab from time to time and take interest in his work. The award will be conferred on him during a function to be held on April 4 at 6.30 pm on Dutt Akhara Ghat.
