Ujjain: A joint team of food department and Ujjain Municipal Corporation on Wednesday seized 10 quintal of spurious mawa, which was brought from Ahmedabad. The officials raided at Baba Travels and seized more than 10 quintals spurious mawa packed in 45 cotton sacks worth around Rs 2.5 lakh. The seized mawa was sent for laboratory test. The officials informed that the sender of mawa is being searched. According to information, a bus (MP 13 P 9090) owned by Urvashi Travels left for Ujjain from Ahmedabad and reached Baba Travels located at Dewasgate. The mawa was unloaded here and kept on the road.
Meanwhile, acting on a tip-off, food security officer Shailesh Gupta and civic body health inspector Purushottam Dubey along with other officials concerned reached at the spot and seized the spurious milk product. Later its specimens were sent for laboratory testing. Officials sought details of the sender from the travels, but they could not give satisfactorily reply.
No one came to lift the mawa for hours. Baba Travels manager Bunty Thakur informed that the consignment was loaded in Ahmedabad but no one had come to take the delivery of it. However, one person had come with the goods (mawa), but he ran away from the bus stand sensing trouble. The spurious mawa was sent to store in cold storage and officials started investigation into the matter.
