Indore: Following protest against increasing attacks on doctors in the country, junior doctors raised protest against poor facilities provided in Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital for them.
A delegation of Junior Doctors’ Association and Indian Medical Association-Indore chapter met Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College dean Dr Jyoti Bindal on Tuesday to support the demand of junior doctors.
They submitted a memorandum in this regard. President of Junior Doctors’ Association Dr Shashank Singh said they have to stay in the hospital for more than 14 hours but facilities for them are “very poor”.
“There are no adequate number of duty rooms, beds. We don’t have drinking water facility. The washrooms in the duty rooms are dirty and in a dilapidated state,” Dr Shashank said. He said they have been lodging complaints in this connection for a long time but to no avail.
“There is not enough safety for doctors despite repeated protests staged by us. We are getting only assurance from the officials,” he said adding, “Dean has assured us for taking appropriate steps for improving facilities at earliest.”
Meanwhile, zonal chairman of IMA-Indore and ex-student of MGM Medical College Dr Sanjay Londhe said students are facing same problems, which they faced while studying in the college.
“There is no change in the issues and no action has been taken for it. We have placed demands before dean and hope students’ problems will be solved soon,” Dr Londhe added.
