Baramati: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Member of Parliament, Supriya Sule filed her nomination papers for the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday, amid a massive show of strength by the NCP and the Congress in Pune. Surpiya, the daughter of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, is a two-time MP from the Pawar clan’s stronghold, Baramati.
She was accompanied by NCP leader and cousin Ajit Pawar, his son Parth Pawar – the NCP-Congress candidate for the Maval Lok Sabha seat, senior Congressman Harshavardhan Patil and the Congress’s newly announced candidate for the Pune seat, Mohan Joshi, who filed his nomination papers as well. She is pitted against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kanchan Kul, wife of the Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP) legislator from Daund, Rahul Kul.

Speaking about issues in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, Sule said, “Elections are part of our profession. This election is for progress and opportunity to do better work. Everyone has seen my work in Parliament as well as in my constituency.” I thank the Congress party and all our alliance partners for their support. I am grateful to all my voters and allies for reposing faith in me,” she added.
On BJP’s charge of nepotism in NCP, Sule said, “BJP has nothing to say on the development plank, so they are making personal attacks.” In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, she had won from the Baramati seat which used to be his father’s bastion. NCP is contesting the elections in alliance with Congress in Maharashtra where 48 Lok Sabha seats are at stake.
