Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has appealed to the unmarried and single to vote for his son, Parth, the Congress-NCP candidate from the Maval Lok Sabha Constituency. He was speaking at a mela in Pimpri. “

We need some unmarried members of Parliament in Lok Sabha. Parth is representing this category,” said Pawar.  Pawar added, “A cow doesn’t die because of a crow’s curse and I will say, don’t be scared of such curses. We need representatives who will address the problems of singles in our Parliament.”

He was referring to remarks by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, Sakshi Maharaj, and the BJP candidate from Solapur, Jai Siddheshwar Shivacharya Mahaswamy. The former had threatened to curse those who would not vote for him and the latter has claimed to be god.

The NCP leader proceeded to further take potshots at the educational qualifications of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. He said Smriti Irani was a ’12th pass’ and was the boss of all universities, while Shrirang Barne, the Sena’s candidate from Maval, was a ’10th fail’. “Parth, on the other hand, is highly educated and he should be your choice.”

Citing two recent incidents involving BJP leaders, one in Jalgaon where the video showed partymen beating each other and another where the sitting MP, Dilip Gandhi’s speech was cut short, Pawar said, these were instances of BJP’s strong-arm tactics and dictatorial attitude.  “Don’t follow such behaviour. Once in power, behave appropriately,” he advised.
