Mumbai: Many people use Election Day as an excuse to go out of town for vacation. While few give numerous reasons and don’t vote at all. Here is an example of a 69-year-old woman who has been undergoing dialysis for the last two-and-a-half-years and also suffering from diabetes who preferred to cast her vote after she completed her diabetes treatment.
Vidya Nadkarni did not let her dialysis treatment stop her from performing her civic duty. She put her civic duty above her health to go and cast her vote.
Many senior citizens were seen on Monday at the polling booths. This definitely sent a message encouraging youngsters to come out and vote. On Monday morning, soon after completing her diabetes treatment she came home and straight away headed towards the polling booth to cast her vote. “I had decided long ago that I will cast my vote.
So, after finishing my dialysis, I came home and, without wasting much time reached to the polling booth and performed my duty by casting vote,” said Vidya Nadkarni. Ajay Nadkarni, her son, said, “After doing the dialysis, my mother was feeling a bit exhausted due to the procedure. But, she was so determined to vote, she came out and cast her vote.”
Meanwhile, another inspiring story is of a 71-year-old man named N K Iyer who was operated for brain surgery and shifted from the Intensive Care Unit to the ward just three days back. He was taken to an election booth to cast his vote and sagely brought back to Zen Hospital.
