Mumbai: The three-time sitting corporator of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Mulund, Manoj Kotak, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai North East constituency, filed his nomination on Monday.

Kotak declared total net assets (including those of his spouse and dependants) worth Rs 3.29 crore, down from the Rs 4 crore he had declared during the February 2017 civic elections. Further, Kotak’s affidavit states that he has moveable assets worth Rs 1.97 crore, immovable assets of Rs 1.52 crore, and liabilities of Rs 20.48 lakh.

Kotak has studied up to SSC and has two criminal cases against him. Standing atop a decorated vehicle, he said, “Our success story will continue. People love us. They trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and they will also shower their love on me.

Our previous MP Kirit Somaiya did a lot of work in this constituency. I will continue the good work, if given an opportunity.”  The BJP gave him the LS ticket since the Shiv Sena had strongly objected to the renomination of Somaiya.  Kotak will fight the LS elections against the Nationalist Congress Party candidate Sanjay Dina Patil.

In the 2014 elections, the voter turnout in this constituency was about 51.70 per cent and the BJP’s Somaiya had won with a margin of 3,17,122 votes against the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Patil.  Maharashtra, with 48 Lok Sabha seats (six of which are in Mumbai), will vote in four phases. Mumbai will vote on April 29.

Mumbai: The Congress candidate from Mumbai North Central, Priya Dutt filed her nomination papers at the collector office in Bandra (E) on Monday. Priya had her Bollywood superstar brother Sanjay by her side along with other Congress leaders.

Following the tradition started by her late father Sunil Dutt, Priya visited the Siddhivinayak temple, Mount Mary church and a dargah before filing her nomination. Her brother Sanjay Dutt accompanied Priya while filing her papers for the Mumbai North Central seat, where she faces sitting Member of Parliament (MP) Poonam Mahajan who is contesting on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.

The Dutt siblings flashed victory signs before the cameras as they reached the Bandra collector’s office for Priya Dutt to submit her poll documents. “I am overwhelmed by the love and support I have received from the people. I am here because of my workers, this day is dedicated to them,” Priya said.

Accompanying his sister, Sanjay Dutt appealed the people of the constituency to vote for her as she had put in lots of efforts to make their lives better. “I will always stand with Priya and I will always stand by her side… If my sister will order me to fight the election, I will surely do. I can’t strategise things; I think from heart. My sister is contesting elections after five years. I will do whatever she will want,” said Sanjay Dutt.
