With Lok Sabha elections just around the corner, the Congress is leaving no stones unturned to connect with the youth in Mumbai. The two new entrants in the Congress, actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar, and Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel will address a joint rally in Mumbai in order to connect with the Mumbai youths.

According to Mumbai Mirror, both,  Urmila Matondkar and Hardik Patel, will address the joint rally on Sunday in Andheri. Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam told the leading daily, “We are already getting a great response from the youth. They want to connect with the party. They are fed up of the BJP’s misrule which has given them only unemployment. Hardik Patel is a popular youth leader and he will tell people about the disastrous Gujarat model. We are sure that the Hardik-Urmila chemistry will strike a chord with young voters.”

Actor Urmila Matondkar on March 27  joined the Congress after meeting party chief Rahul Gandhi at his residence. “I am here because I believe in the ideology of Congress and what the party stands for. I have not joined the party for the sake of elections,” she told reporters.

The Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel was all set to contest elections from Jamnagar in Gujarat on a Congress ticket after joining the party on March 12. But his plans foiled after the Supreme Court declined an urgent hearing in his case. Patel had moved to the apex court seeking suspension of his conviction in the case in which he was found guilty of rioting and arson during the Patidar quota stir in 2015. As per rules and the Representation of the People (RP) Act, a political candidate, who was convicted and facing a prison term of two years or more cannot contest the elections, unless the same is stayed by a court.
