With political parties intensifying their attacks on rival parties, Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan has slammed the Narendra Modi and has said that there is a strong undercurrent against the Modi government and the Congress-NCP alliance will put up a good show in Maharashtra.

Ashok Chavan, in an interview to the Hindustan Times said, “I see a strong undercurrent against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led governments at the Centre and in the state. Their non-performance is a major issue. People have started comparing the performance of the Congress and NDA governments. They have realised there is a vast difference between what the BJP says and what it does.”

He further added that Congress did whatever it said — foreign investment, waiving farmers’ loans, providing jobs and maintaining a peaceful environment in the country. He further slammed the BJP-led government for creating fear amongst citizens. Chavan said, “Today, it is full of fear. Academicians, authors, thinkers, and minorities fear the government, its agencies and political supporters. Right-wing outfits such as Sanatan Sanstha are getting a free hand to do what they want. Businessmen are under the fear of enforcement directorate and other authorities.”

He accused the government of failing to effectively implement drought mitigation measures, saying the people from rural areas are forced to migrate in the search of jobs. Chavan reiterated his allegations regarding the farmer loan waiver scheme and the government’s promise to ensure that farmers are paid MSP 1.5 times the production cost. Nanded constituency comprises Bhokar, Nanded North, Nanded South, Naigaon, Deglur, and Mukhed assembly segments.
