Thane: In a unique gesture, a 20-year-old bride from Ulhasnagar didn’t forget to discharge her duty as an educated citizen and exercised her franchise before tying the knot.
Sayali Ranpise, whose marriage was scheduled to be held on Monday with groom Abhijit Jadhav at Nashik, clashed with the elction date. Sayali, along with her father Mahendra Ranpise, went to the polling booth and was the first voter to cast her vote at 7am.
Then, she headed to neighbouring Nashik district with her family to the mariage venue to start a new inning of her life. Sayali’s family resides in Dhobighat area of Ulhasnagar. Her marriage’s auspicious time (shubh muhurat) 11am. So, she went to Ulhas vidyalaya booth number 309 in Ulhasnagar and voted early in the morning.
Commenting on her move, Sayli Ranpise said, “It’s a sign of enthusiasm among young voters. A woman in full bridal finery arrived at the voting booth to cast her vote. It’s observed people often don’t vote if they have something important to do.” She added, “I used it as an opportunity to spread awareness about importance of voting.”
