The Congress-NCP alliance in Lok Sabha elections have an advantage point with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray promoting the grand alliance. But the MNS has decided not to work for Congress’ Mumbai North West candidate Sanjay Nirupam.
According to Mumbai Mirror, MNS functionaries have claimed that he is anti-Marathi and had also opposed MNS’s inclusion in the Congress-NCP alliance. The report further states that the NCP was desperate to get MNS on board and was also willing to offer two seats, but Nirupam and Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan opposed MNS’s entry.
“We have taken a decision not to work Nirupam. He is anti-Marathi and anti-Maharashtra. Our people in Mumbai North West will help opposition candidates in other areas,’’ MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar told the leading daily. The Mumbai North West constituency has 36,8200 North Indians and 33,4900 Muslims who are likely to vote for Nirupam. He is also trying to woo 19,9800 Gujaratis and Rajasthanis, 45100 Christians and 12,0900 South Indians.
