The EC has ordered re-election in Maharashtra’s Dongaon polling station No. 120 on April 24. A re-poll was necessitated because on the day of polling, April 18, district administration staffers on election duty first conducted a mock drill and failed to clear this data.

By the time the lapse was discovered, the same EVMs had already been used for actual polling and the staffers inadvertently cleared the entire data. The four staffers on duty that day were later fired by the district collector and are facing an enquiry.

They should have cleared the data from the control unit immediately after their mock drill but failed to do so. When the matter was discovered, actual polling had already occurred on these units, which was wiped out when data was inadvertently cleared afterwards.
