Aurangabad: Not to be left behind when it comes to the religious circuit, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Lok Sabha candidate Imtiaz Jalil too will visit Shantigiri Maharaj on April 13 in Aurangabad.
Shantigiri Maharaj is considered an important spiritual personality by the Hindus. Jalil’s impending visit has raised eyebrows since he is a devout Muslim. There is speculation that his meeting with Shantigiri Maharaj will change political equations in Aurangabad. Also, it is not clear whether he will only meet him or also seek his blessings.
“As a political candidate, I have to meet everybody across all religions and societal barriers,” said Jalil. Initially, Shantigiri Maharaj was to contest the Lok Sabha election, but to avoid a split in the Hindu votes, he backed off. He had contested as an Independent in the 2009 elections and polled close to 1.5 lakh votes, finishing third. In Maharashtra, AIMIM is only contesting from the Aurangabad seat.
