Nagpur: Campaigning for his party candidates on Thursday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis yet again found himself at the mercy of the elements.

A grand pandal, which had been set up for the first rally of the BJP in Akola, was blown away by gusty winds just before the event was scheduled to begin. The rally was to take place at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Maidan on Dabki Road in Akola. After the incident, all efforts were made to set it up again but the task could not be completed before the time for the rally to start.

Result: Akola locals were forced to sit in the blazing sun at 40+ temps to listen to his speech. For the better part of his tenure, Fadnavis seems to have been at the receiving end of the elements — wind, water and fire. In the recent past, the CM has been caught in near-miss helicopter mishaps, in January 2019, January 2018 and four times in 2017.

In 2016, a massive fire had broken out on February 14 at a cultural event held at the Girgaum Chowpatty seafront in Mumbai, where celebrities from the film industry and political bigwigs had gathered for a ‘Make in India’ investment meeting. All the VVIPs, including Fadnavis, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, actors Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan were safely evacuated and the programme had to be called off.

In 2015, when the rains played truant in the state, he found himself grounded, this time around, by both wind and water. He had decided to visit religious centres in Gujarat in July 2015 to pray for rain in Maharashtra. But his chopper ran into rough weather and had to make a forced landing, shortly after taking off from Rajkot airport.
