Mumbai: The Mumbai Police are ready and fully equipped to deploy their policemen at various stages of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the city. The police have beefed up their interdepartmental checks and raids in order to create a safe atmosphere for the voters during the polls, in a bid to prevent criminal activities.

Different departments of the Mumbai Police like the crime branch, anti narcotics cell, special branch, social service branch and flying squads put in place several security measures as soon as after the Election Commissioner announced the poll dates on March 10.

“We are taking adequate preventive measures to make sure that the election process goes on smoothly. The police have also been conducting nakabandis and combing operations across the city,” said Manjunath Singe, deputy commissioner of police (operations) and Mumbai Police spokesperson. Mumbai Police have pre-planned the deployments and arrangements of policemen at various events for the pre-election events.

“Right from nomination filing rallies to promotion campaigns by political parties, the police have fulfilled all the requirements put forth by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the election body is very happy with our efficient work,” said Singe.

Various teams from the flying squad of crime branch and anti-narcotics cell have been conducting raids across the city to arrest criminals and history sheeters and put them behind bars. Subsequently, the police are also identifying criminals and externing them. Some history sheeters have also signed treaties with the police wherein the criminals have attested not to indulge in any criminal activities during the election period, said a police official on the request of confidentiality.

DCP Singe said Mumbai Police do not want to leave any loopholes unplugged in the arrangements for the upcoming elections. Similarly, as soon as the nomination process of the election is over, the police force will be deployed at various Lok Sabha constituencies on the election duty.
