Mumbai: With Lok Sabha elections just days away, the Congress party, it seems, is not going to leave any stone unturned when it comes to campaigning on social media.

The party is strictly following the footsteps of BJP-led government by trying to reach out to as many youngsters through various social media platform and has also asked their six representatives to be more active on social media.

“We have asked our six representatives to be more active and make videos with their views and agendas which they can upload on their official accounts to reach out to maximum number of people through social media,” said a party worker.

He further said this time the Congress party does not want to lose any of their voters due to which the social media budget may have increased compared to 2014 elections.  “There are places in the country where there isn’t adequate water supply, but internet is connected in every household, which is a craze among youngsters. The party does not want to lose out on any of these young voters,” he said.

According to experts, social media is the most important campaign tool this election season. It is not just Facebook, Instagram and Twitter that are important. WhatsApp, ShareChat and TikTok are some other platforms that are quite important for poll promotions.

“In the coming days, you are going to see more activity of the six candidates from Mumbai on social media. Milind Deora, who was recently appointed as President of Mumbai Regional Congress Committeeb (MRCC) and also a tech-savvy who was India’s former Minister for Telecom, IT, has instructed candidates to actively interact with people on social media, especially on Twitter and Facebook,” said an expert.

Milind Deora said, this time they will be doing something different with catchy activities on social media which will attract many viewers. “You are going to see more active movements on social media this poll season,” said Deora.

However, the newly elected Congress representative from North constituency, actress Urmila Matondkar, is yet to create her own official Twitter account other than her fan accounts. But the actress is quite active on Instagram with over 3.5 lakh fan followers. “Instagram is the game changer this voting season. Though maximum votes come from Facebook, the platform has got a lot of other contents too.

Instagram has only pictures and pictures have a long-lasting effect on people’s mind. Candid pictures of candid moments work very well and Instagram is the best medium to flash it as it doesn’t have any other distractions like Facebook,” Deora added.

Alongside Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter the party will soon start direct calling campaign too. Talking of videos that are again a focus area for the party in their campaign, videos between 1 and 5 minutes are being created depending on which platform they will be posted.
