Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s designs are famous for their old world aesthetic. His curated old-world aesthetic manages to pack a punch every season. The label was launched in 1999 with an aim of preserving Indian tradition, arts and crafts. With seamless ease, the brand is a perfect blend of vintage and modern and paved the way for an aesthetic that stands with women of all walks and styles. Started with a three-person team, it has today collaborated with several international brands including shoe designer Christian Louboutin, diamond jewellery brand Forevermark and American upholstery giant Pottery Barn.

Of late Sabyasachi Mukherjee chooses to drop his collections and important announcements on Instagram. The label has recently announced its first every jewellery line. In his post, he admits that he is he is very fond of jewellery, almost a tad sentimentally. So it has always disappointed him that he could never find the right jewellery for his clothing when he used to dress up his brides. He envisioned them in strong mathapattis and pahadi naths but most jewellers were making an apology of a tikka and a nose pin. The brand takes credit for making both these items a must have amongst all Indian brides in today’s times. In his post, he writes, “Indian jewellery is beautiful, arrogant and strong and very individualistic. It’s my mission to bring it all back, in all its former glory. And I will not rest till it’s done”. The jewellery line will launch democratically on Instagram on July 20th at 9 pm.

Sabyasachi launches his own line of jewellery. He says growing up in Calcutta, there was always an unspoken pressure to hone ones aesthetic skills. His maternal grandfather, according to him had exquisite taste. The man drove a Morris Minor, commissioned silks from Varanasi and Chennai and got beautiful Art-Deco jewellery from a Bengali Babu in Manicktala. Chota Sabya used to often accompany him on these trips. “I had no choice but to imbibe my grandfather’s exquisite taste. He subtly saw to it”.
