Tell us a little about your association with Style Digest 2.0. What are you setting out to achieve?

We have been filming the second edition of the Zoya Style Digest which is focused on styling the contemporary women for personal milestones. I don’t do much collaboration, but when I do it, I just want to make sure that I believe in it. I like Zoya because I relate to their philosophy and how design is approached at Zoya. There’s great attention to craftsmanship, a lot of time and effort is involved in making each piece. I use Zoya’s jewellery a lot in my styling with Sonam and I personally wear Zoya as well.

As a part of the videos, we did two looks. One for Kainaz Messman, she owns and runs Theobroma. She is a talented businesswoman, chef. What we did for her was very out of the box from what she would normally do for herself. We styled a beautiful white ivory shirt with an incredible Indian designer’s skirt and we paired it with the emerald necklace from Zoya’s Hollywood Collection. We mixed everyday street style with femininity and glamour.

For the second video, we styled Karishma for her daughters’ engagement with an Anamika Khanna outfit. We used a very beautiful ivory enamel piece from Zoya’s collection, Inheritance. We styled her in modern Indian, which is unique and the jewellery was geometric and elegant. When I see young cool mums doing looks like that, it just makes me happy because it feels like there’s a personality to it and it doesn’t look generic.

What are the jewellery trends that interest you currently?

Love, love, love hair jewellery! That’s why I like a good brooch, because I feel like you can make it into a pendant, you can wear it as head jewellery, you can do so much with it. Sonam and I started doing them years ago because we’re just ‘extra’, but I love hair jewellery in general. I also love emeralds and they go really well with Indian skin. I think Zoya has some beautiful emerald pieces that are trend setting.

Should jewellery be fun or a family heirloom? How can one bridge the gap?

It can be both, specifically with Zoya, because it is such beautiful handcrafted jewellery. They take 9-12 months to make their pieces that make it worthy of being an heirloom, but at the same time a cooler global aesthetic is involved as the design outlook is a lot more modern. So you can have an heirloom that’s fun and it can be fun for many generations to come.

What do you believe are the 10 most important pieces of jewellery that every girl should possess?

I’d suggest opting for jewellery that is versatile and can be worn with many looks, like tennis bracelets, delicate pendants, lariats and brooches.

What is your personal relationship with jewellery?

I’ve loved it always… clothes, jewellery … everything...!

What are your favourite pieces?

I love the Paris inspired collection Musee du Luxe – there’s a beautiful bracelet inspired by the Eiffel Tower.

How often do you wear jewellery?

I wear jewellery every day.

What are your tips to choosing and wearing jewellery for office, evenings out, weddings?

Honestly, I feel like people should style themselves the way they like. My personal philosophy is to style jeans like a gown and gown like a jeans and that’s how I dress. I would personally style jewellery with street wear and keep the gown little more understated, as in wear an elegant statement piece which Zoya has a lot of in their Hollywood collection. Just have fun with it you know, don’t take it too seriously.

One of the things that I particularly like about Zoya’s collections is that they have delicate jewellery which has character but at the same time you can make it your own, and that’s what all accessories should be like.
