Jyeshtha Purnima 2021: Date, timing, significance, and rituals - here's all you need to know

Jyeshtha is the third month of the year as per the Hindu calendar. And, the full moon in this month is known as Jyeshtha Purnima, this day has great importance in the Hindu religion.

The Jyeshtha month begins when Sun enters Taurus in the second month of the year. And the Purnima which falls in this month is called Jyeshtha Purnima. This year Jyeshtha Purnima festival will be celebrated on June 24.

On this day, devotees observe a day-long fast and worship both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva to seek their blessings for a prosperous life.

The day is also celebrated Vat Purnima and the Vat Savitri fast is also observed. Vat Purnima is one of the most significant festivals observed by Hindu women, especially the ones who are married. Married women observe Vat Purnima Vrat for the well-being and long life of their husbands.

Significance of Jyeshtha Purnima

The Jyeshtha Purnima has great significance in Hindu religion. On Jyeshtha Purnima, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva by observing fast and performing puja.

It is believed that during this time, the earth experiences tremendous heat and many rivers also dry up or their water level decreases. And therefore, the festivals celebrated during this period tell us about the importance of water. It is believed that taking a dip in holy rivers on this day fulfills all the wishes of devotees.
