Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed recently presented his aLL plus size collection at the Lakme Fashion Week. ‘Fashion is for one and all’ – this motto of aLL- The Plus Size Store is what makes them work relentlessly to create fashion that is approachable for all. Hence, aLL-The Plus Size Store has collaborated with Narendra Kumar who will be designing ‘aLL Primero’ Collection- ‘Never Hyde’ for aLL’s Autumn Winter 2018 collection.
The recent show’s collection proved that a person looks as good as their confidence in the outfit they are wearing. It has aimed to inspire more and more people to discover their personal style and explore fashion choices that correspond to their personality. The aLL Primero line has showcased at the fashion gala.
So, recently Sumit Rajguru from Free Press Journal contacted designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed and asked him about his collection and other things. Excerpts –
Q1. How has been your experience at the LFW?
Having worked from conceptualisation of the shows to being part of the advisory council, I’ve always been a strong advocate and believer of the platform. It gives opportunities to young talent as well as breaks stereotypes by showcasing fashion for all sizes. We couldn’t be happier to be part of this journey with Lakme Fashion Week.
Q2. Is designing for aLL different from others? How?
I believe fashion is for all sizes. We have deliberately designed the collection on the same lines as we would for Narendra Kumar Label. This collection, for aLL- Plus size in fact, aims to break away from all stereotypes set by the society when it comes to what a plus size person should wear.
Q3. What is your inspiration for the line?
In this new age, it’s more about the mindset of the evolving woman. The idea then was to hide your body to conform to what society thought was fit. This no longer holds any weight given the changing environment. Hence our show #NEVERHYDE inspired by ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr.Hyde’, one man who transforms between two personae, encourages one to no longer live a dual life, one of themselves and the other to fit into society. The focus of this aLL Primero collection is to break all conventions by adding a lot of colour, eccentric prints and silhouettes to it.
Q4. What do you think about body positivity?
Given how things are changing in the world even compared to 5 years ago in regards to women’s issues, gender equality, equal rights, metro movements, and this terminology is most definitely going to be obsolete. As more brands start to create such lines given the size of the market it will end up being as regular a feature as all other fashion today. The idea of this show is to wear what you want without having to conform to rules. Wear your spirit in your clothes.
