Renowned make-up artist Clint Fernandes is quite open in hinting that natural make-up allows a girl to look extremely comfortable in what she is wearing and quite effortlessly. “Sometimes, too much makeup can look forced. Natural makeup when done well is subtle and looks very elegant with evening wear.”

Manasee Thakur, hairstylist & make-up artist of Pune-based Manasee Studio 101 is of the view that natural make-up can raise people’s view of a woman’s likability. “Cosmetics can give boost to a woman’s attractiveness. It has indeed become the status quo in public. It ultimately elevates a woman’s self esteem.”

We generally make the mistake of connecting natural with no make-up look. It is but natural. But remove any such notion from your mind. Clint considers natural make-up to highlight certain features subtly.

“A no make-up look is more or less like how one does it for a movie just to even out the skin tone and be most realistic. With a no makeup look, a lot of the flaws in the skin and the features would show up, where as with natural makeup, one would hide these flaws and the face would still look like there is nothing on.” Manasee supports her fellow make-up artist and sees a big difference between natural and no make-up.

“Wearing makeup is entirely up to the individual. A little make-up will definitely add to highlight the woman’s beauty and reduce the flaws.”

With two talented professionals giving you all the advice, it is but natural that you ask for points for ideal natural make-up. We start with the basic tips given by Manasee before heading to the complex. One has to use the perfect make-up to suit one’s skin tone. It means going for the right brand, perfect pre & post products which will enable you to achieving the right natural make-up. She adds, “Make sure you choose the right foundation and a good primer. Know your concealers. Define your features and highlight your eyes. Contouring is the most important thing to achieve a good make-up.”

Clint wants one to start with evening out the skin tone. Get your skin and foundation to be natural & glowing but nothing heavy. “Keeping the foundation a perfect match to the skin tone is necessary to get perfect results. Keep the eyes in shades of the skin tone. Shades of apricot, caramel, light brown and chocolate works best on Indian skin tones. Going matte is preferable specially for Indian climatic conditions as well as most girls do have a tendency to get a bit greasy after a while. The same applies to the foundation. Keep the mascara as well light and just defining the lashes and not too heavy.”

Following on the line, go for natural colour for the lips – just like original lip colour. “If one has pigmented lips, like a lot of Indian women, then one should use a long stay lip colour that is an exact match to the facial skin tone first. Then follow it with a very light pink or apricot over that. This way, the lips will not look too dark or discoloured,” he adds.

We also look forward to some mantras to edn it all. Manasee suggests to all women that one can perfect one’s complexion and hiding any odd pimples by touching it with a yellow base so that the redness can be avoided. “Fake your gorgeous glow by mixing one part of the foundation and one part of liquid illuminator. Sweeten your cheeks by adding a minneral blush.”

Clint ends by suggesting, “Having restrain when using makeup requires some amount of practice as many people apply makeup until one sees it on the skin. It makes the face look over done and heavy. One should apply until one barely sees it. Use more only if necessary and also work with a palate that matches your own skin tone. Remember each ones skin tone is different and sometimes ready makeup kits would not work for everyone. Buy accordingly. Test EVERYTHING you want in the store before you purchase.” Go natural with make-up and look drop-dead gorgeous.
