In more trouble for the Maharashtra Vikas Agahadi (MVA) government, a public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Bombay High Court seeking registration of first information reports (FIRs) against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut sedition and breach of public peace following the continuing turmoil in the Maharashtra government after a faction of Shiv Sena MLAs turned revel.

The petition filed by Pune-based activist Hemant Patil has sought that the Thackerays and Raut be restrained from “organizing press conferences, tours, and visits to various places in Maharashtra on the issue of rebel of MLAs of the Eknath Shinde group".

The plea states that after the political crisis in Maharashtra, caused by rebel MLAs, they fled to Guwahati “only because of safety of their lives from the threat given by respondent No. 5 to 7 (Uddhav Thackeray, Aditya and Raut)”.

“In most of the protests organized at the influence and instigation of respondents (Thackeray and Raut) in various district of State of Maharashtra antisocial elements have damaged public property in the State in front of police personals and there is situation of breach of law and order in the State for which the respondents are only responsible for the same,” read the petition.

The Central government providing Y+ protection to the rebel MLAs was a sign that that there has been a breach of peace in Maharashtra, claims the plea.

Patil has further said that “looking to the circumstance and facts and helpless situation of police machinery in respect to violence, protest with damaging public property”, he had made a representation to senior police inspector of Deccan Gymkhana police station, Pune police commissioner and the Director General of Police on June 27 for action against Thackerays and Raut.

The PIL prays that the DGP be directed to conduct an inquiry and register FIRs against Thackerays and Raut for public nuisance and sedition.

The PIL will come up for hearing in due course of time.
