Thane court acquits 10 dacoits due to lack of evidence

A Thane Session Court Judge Rajendra Kakani on Friday acquitted ten alleged dacoits who had committed a daring daylight robbery of Rs 13 lakhs in a bank near Shahu Market in Thane in the year 2014.

Earlier on 12th May 2014, the ten alleged dacoits committed a daring daylight robbery of Rs 13 lakhs and the Thane Nagar Police station had arrested them on the basis of eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage. The accused were arrested under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 395 and 397.

The case of the prosecution was that the accused had caught the collection agent and overpowered him with the aid of weapons and decamped with the loot.

The advocates for the accused Munir Ahmed and Sushma Mishra had argued that the recovery was foisted and the identification parade was not conducted as per law.

Advocate Munir Ahmed speaking with FPJ Correspondent said, "The CCTV footage were blurred and the accused is not to be seen clearly in the CCTV. Their face is not seen while running. Also the identification parade by the police was not done as per the Supreme Court order. All the accused were arrested and we're out on the bail and the legal proceedings were going against them. All the accused were acquitted today because there was not enough evidence that they can be convicted."

The ten accused who has been acquitted are Angat Singh Bachulal Prajapati (38) a resident of Thane, Deepak Phulchand Vishwakarma (30) the leader of the dacoits a resident of Kalwa, Raju Bhole Chauhan (34) from Thane (West), Pankaj Ravindra Rajbhar (32) from Thane (West), Manoj Ramlakhan Jaiswal (32) from Kalwa (West), Raja Mohan Pawar (32) from Thane (West), Sujat Krishna Gupta (34) from Thane (West), Karan Gupta (30) from Thane (West), Hariom Sri Ramchandran Jaiswal (34) from Thane (West) and Amar Bahadur Buddhi Ram Yadav (40) from Thane (West).
