Mumbai :  It was a mishap waiting to happen but thankfully it did not end in a tragedy. A 26-year-old resident of Dhanu, Miniesh Nahar, got stuck in the gap between the train and the platform at Bandra station but was rescued by chipping off the edge of the platform.

The incident occurred at 5 pm when Nahar was trying to board 69145 Dadar-Dahanu train: he lost his balance, slipped and fell in the gaping hole.

An official from WR said, “The train had arrived on platform number 4 of Bandra station and while trying to climb the stairs of the Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit, Nahar slipped and fell in the gap.” As the train was stationary, he did not sustain grievous injuries. The officials present at the spot tried to extricate him but failed, following which they decided to chip off a portion of the platform.

A senior official from the RPF said, “If the train had moved an inch, he would have been maimed or killed.” Nahar was later rushed to Bhabha hospital. However, he did not sustain any grievous injuries and merely has some swelling on his foot. A total of 15 trains had to be cancelled and several others were running late owing to the disruption.
