“Enough of social networking, let’s stay away from those boring matrimonial sites, at least now I should give it a try to these ‘Dating apps’…” says today’s youth. So let us take a tour of these dating apps says Roshani Shinde

Looking at each other across the classroom, everyday taking the same bus so you can see her, and at times playing hide and seek between your office cabinets… too mushy isn’t it? And also bit old school. So what’s the latest trend?

Well, it is too simple. No running around the corridors to make an attempt to ask her out, eye contacts…of course not and keeping it private and away from the vision of everyone, is definitely yes. Because you just have to pick your Smartphone, make a profile on a dating app, browse, swipe left and right and there your dating games starts…

Just like everything else, even dating is happing on a bigger scale in the virtual world. So we thought that only matrimonial sites are meant for Indians then you are definitely living in an illusion. Though matrimonial sites are a big hit with the Indians, so are the dating apps. The only difference is it even now on a larger extent it is a hush-hush affair.

The list of dating apps in India alone is quite huge and the top apps have around 1million to 3 million users each. Hardly two years in the market and both Truly Madly and Woo have registered users in the same bracket.

Sumesh Menon – Co-Founder and CEO of Woo says, “Before launching the app we did our research and saw that the youth is looking out to connect with more people. We do have lot of social networking sites and even matrimonial sites, and the international dating apps are too heavy to digest for many around us. So thought of coming up with an app which will be a middle path between a matrimonial site and the international dating apps.”

Within two months the app which was just restricted to Bangalore spread it wings in Mumbai and Delhi. The response was phenomenal. Now Woo is available all around the country and from last October even in Indonesia.

Though Woo has users from Tier II and III cities as well, their target is the urban crowd. Sachin Bhatia – CEO and Co-founder of Truly Madly has an interesting piece of information regarding the same. “On Truly Madly about 45% of the users are from the Tier II and III cities and their response and enthusiasm is as good as that from the Metros. And the females from this section seem to be more active and enthusiastic.” Truly Madly dating app claims to be girl’s best friend and have high security measurements for them.

The youth is joyfully entering the rosy world and are more than happy to explore a new area. Twins Nachiket and Aniket both have their profiles on a leading dating app. While Nachiket wanted to connect to someone from his vicinity, Aniket tried it just to experience something new. While Pawan Badlani, a Celebrity Manager felt he wasn’t too lucky in the real world so why not take a chance on these dating apps.

Lot of people and even experts claim that Indians even now are quite conservative when it comes to the dating scene. The boys prove the saying true in a way. None of them are treating the apps and the process as a game. They are open to healthy, casual dating but a hope of finding that special someone even through such apps still prevails.

These young men are still on the lookout but few have already met their soul mates through these apps. Sumedha Kapoor, a marketing professional from Gurgaon met the love of her life through Woo. Last year she even got married to him.

These apps have some amazing features. Truly Madly has ‘Date-licious’ where one can book a date from the list of restaurants which do offer a good discount to the users. And ‘Truly Madly Scenes’ gives a list of events happening in your city where one can also check which matches of theirs are also going for the same.

And if you seek for an advice from an expert then ‘Love Doctor’ Avni Parekh is there to guide through her blogs and campaigns. Woo encourages women to ask questions via Questioncast and the most intriguing answer surely is in a win-win position.

Yet you want to back out and again enjoy the real dating world, then just delete your account all the data vanishes in the air.
