Mumbai : Wasim Shaikh and Arijeet Bose found the going tough before they managed to win their respective men’s singles pre-quarter-final round matches of the 2nd Maharashtra Senior State Selection Badminton Tournament 2016 and played at the Goregaon Sports Club on Thursday.
In a closely fought encounter, Shaikh dropped the first game to Vinayak Dandavate, but recovered well and bounced back to pocket the next two games to seal a 21-23, 27-25, 21-17 win and book his place in the last eight round.
Bose also started on a shaky note and lost the opening game, but thereafter he managed to find his rhythm to overcome Akendra Darji.
Meanwhile, in women’s pre-quarter-final, Neha Pandit cruised to an easy win defeating bt Pooja Kachare 21-8, 21-0, while Revati Devasthale beat Umay Sayyed 21-4, 21-2.
