Saketh, Somdev, Sanam to vie for Chennai Open main draw

Chennai: Indian tennis players Saketh Myneni, Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh will be vying for the four slots available in the men’s singles main draw of the Chennai Open when they play the qualifiers on January 2 and 3 at the SDAT Stadium.

Four players will make it to the 28-player main draw of the 20th edition of the $480,000 tournament.

The singles qualifiers are a draw of 16 with 14 direct acceptances and two wildcards. Leading the charge among the Indians will be Saketh, Somdev and Sanam, who was granted a wildcard earlier this week but now has gained direct entry into the qualifiers.

In his place, Prajnesh Gunneswaran has been given a wildcard along with N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth.

The others who will play the qualifiers are Luca Vanni (Italy), Jan-Lennard Struff (Germany), Elias Ymer (Sweden), Blaz Kavcic (Slovenia), James Ward (Great Britain), Thomas Fabiano (Italy), Alexander Kudryavtsev (Russia), Ante Pavic (Croatia), Hans Podlipnik-Castillo (Chile), Jozef Kovalik (Slovakia) and Matthew Barton (Australia).
