Indore: No matter how much do we quarrel with them, parents stand by our side and work towards our betterment in every possible way. Understanding their needs and caring for parents become essential after they retire from their vocation. Recognising importance and contribution of their parents, people shared their stories and feelings with Free Press on ‘Respect for Parents Day’. Respect for Parents day is observed on August 1 annually as a reminder that parents deserve respect and care.

Mom is her Guru

“My mother always stressed on self-reliance. Her efforts and lessons have helped me in becoming a government officer today. I always follow her teachings and even share them with my colleagues and friends. Though change is law of nature but my love for mother will remain constant if not increase with time.”

No hurdle big for parents

“My parents are like god to me. They have proved that having financial crisis is not hurdle for education. I failed seven times in CA final examination but they never asked me to quit. This is just one example. They have supported me. I am grateful to them for giving me such a fulfilling life.”

Daddy’s little girl

“My father is my inspiration. He did not play the role of my mother (after she passed away) but he helped me become a responsible woman. His endless support and love is the reason that we still have a beautiful and strong family. My father taught me never to give up. He motivates me the day I feel low and is my best friend and inspiration.”

Helping people is God’s work

“The most important lesson that my parents have taught me is to help others. As a professor, I have understood that moral values are the most important lessons for a child. My parents say helping people is akin to God’s work. Their moral lessons have helped me become a good person, which is most important thing.”

Supporting girl child

“My parents always guide and support my dreams and studies unlike many Indian parents who feel girls should be married off. I am more attached to my mom. She always teaches me life’s lessons, which help me becoming a good person. She ensures that we never say no to  needy person and share whatever we can in any form. We are born to help others not just live a routine life.”

Biggest support system

“My father has taught me to become a balanced person. He has helped me to become a strong girl with soft heart. My mother knows the art of handling challenges with a smile. She motivates me to stay positive whenever we have tough time. From holding my hand and teaching me how to walk to correcting my every mistake, my parents are my mentors and the biggest support system.”
